Get Wrecked Itinerary

Guests will spend the week diving up to 12 wrecks in the northern Red Sea. Up to 19 wreck dives are offered and 2 reef dives.

The Red Sea is known to have had one of the most important waterways in the world even before the Suez Canal. It was an important trade route between Africa, Arabia and others. With the Suez Canal being built in 1869 and joining the Red Sea to the Mediterranean and Europe to Asia, the Red Sea became one of the most important trade routes in the world. With the offshore reefs almost invisible at times, as the shipping traffic increased, many ships were lost.

Northern Red Sea

The Northern Red Sea and Straits of Tiran provide some of the most historic wrecks like the Thistlegorm, Rosalie Moller, and Abu Nuhas. Ras Mohamed National Park includes many pristine coral reefs as well as abundant marine life. The Straits of Tiran are the narrow sea passages between the Sinai and Arabian peninsulas which separates the Gulf of Aqaba from the Red Sea. These reefs, named after British cartographers (Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas, Gordon), are world famous for their extraordinary diversity of corals and pelagics.

Avis des plongeurs (1)

George, 02/05/2019

The Red Sea Aggressor 2 is a very comfortable boat, even when there are 20 divers on board. The spaces and the service were some of the best I have encountered, and the food was the absolute best, by a wide margin. The chef prepared quite elaborate and nicely presented dishes every day, comparable to what other boats would prepare for a special dinner, such as Christmas. With all the appetite stirred by diving it was hard to control oneself to not overeat. All beverages, including sodas, juices, wine and beer were complimentary. If there was one aspect of the trip that was not as good as in other trips, it was the fact that the diving groups were large, sometimes 10-13 guests to one dive guide. There were 3 dive guides on the boat, and one or two would get in the water with us. Various buddy-pairs took the option at times to go unguided, meaning that they split from the main group. We did not expect the guide to point out marine life, except in special situations. To compensate for the large groups, the dive briefings were exceptionally good: clear, precise, and backed with a slide deck with diagrams and photos of what to expect. Some of the dives were complicated even with the great briefings, e.g., big wreck penetrations, so sometimes everybody diving followed the one guide in the water. Diving was well-organized. The tanks were filled at out stations, we jumped off the boat platform most often, or from the dinghy, and the return was often to the main boat. The dinghy is rather small and one needs to take off the equipment in the water before climbing on. If there are big waves on the surface it is not very pleasant to wait until everybody climbs in. Overall we preferred returning to the boat when possible. On some dive sites we were the only boat, but at the popular wrecks and in the Ras Mohamed park there were often 5-6 other boats around. The early morning dive and the evening dive are noticeably quieter. Diving was split between reef dives and wrecks. We saw and penetrated several big wrecks: Dunraven, Thistlegorm (4 dives), Carnatic, Giannis D, and the Tile wreck. The wrecks are very nice and varied, and for a wreck fan they are probably the best thing ever. The reefs were very healthy, with very nice hard and soft coral and full of fish. The quantity of fish is probably similar to SE Asia, but here the variety is smaller. We saw eagle rays, some barracuda, turtles, and some of us spotted dolphins. Night dives had octopus, lobster, Spanish dancer, squid, overall not extremely exciting. The water was colder than we expected (19C in the first couple of days, then 21C). Also, the first three days there was a strong wind blowing, which made it for pretty chilly conditions. It felt that we barely had time to warm up before we had to suit up again. On the good side, the suits seemed to dry very quickly. People had 5mm or 5.5mm suits, some with hoods. The rental equipment on the boat was high quality.
